Dr. Patricio A. Díaz

Dr. Patricio A. Díaz is a researcher and faculty member at the Universidad de Los Lagos, where he is affiliated with the i~mar Center. His scientific career has focused on the study of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs), coastal oceanography, and Patagonian fjord systems, addressing environmental, productive, and public health issues of major significance. He holds a Ph.D. in Oceanography from the University of Vigo, awarded with highest distinction, and a degree in Marine Biology from the Universidad Austral de Chile. He has an outstanding scientific record, with more than 90 publications in SCI-indexed journals, establishing a nationally and internationally recognized research program on the dynamics of toxic phytoplankton and their impacts on marine ecosystems. Dr. Díaz has led and participated in numerous competitive research projects, including serving as Principal Investigator on several FONDECYT projects and as Co-Investigator in ongoing initiatives aimed at understanding phenomena such as harmful algal blooms, deoxygenation, and the effects of climate change on coastal systems. His work integrates field observations, high-resolution analyses, and modeling approaches, contributing to the development of tools for environmental management and the sustainable development of aquaculture. Through his academic and scientific activities, Dr. Díaz actively contributes to the training of advanced human capital and the strengthening of interdisciplinary research networks, advancing the study of complex marine ecosystems and generating applied knowledge to support evidence-based decision-making.
