Constanza Sáez Vera

Constanza Sáez Vera is a Veterinarian holding a Professional Master’s Degree in Veterinary Preventive Medicine from the Austral University of Chile. She is currently a PhD student in Microbiology at the University of Concepción.

Her scientific career has focused on aquaculture genomics, drug resistance, and molecular biology applied to organisms of interest in salmon farming. She has participated as a research assistant in several Fondecyt and FONDEF projects.

Prior to her doctoral studies, her research work focused on the study of molecular mechanisms associated with sensitivity and resistance to antiparasitic treatments in Caligus rogercresseyi. Currently, her PhD research investigates the impact of infection by Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis Virus (IPNV) on the mucosal microbiome and epigenetic regulation in Salmo salar. Through metagenomic, metatranscriptomic, and epigenomic approaches, her work aims to characterize host–microbiota–virus interactions, identifying mechanisms associated with dysbiosis, immune response, and susceptibility to viral infections in salmon aquaculture.
