Frank Asche to Headline NENRE EfD-Chile Annual Meeting

Dr. Frank Asche, an internationally recognized expert in fisheries and aquaculture economics, will deliver the keynote address at the 12th Annual NENRE EfD-Chile Meeting, to be held on November 5–6 at Termas de Catillo in Parral, Chile.

A professor at the University of Florida’s School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences, Asche is widely known for his research on natural resource economics, seafood markets, aquaculture and the sustainability of marine food production.

His keynote, “Boundaries and Externalities: Firm and Regulatory Structure in Salmon Aquaculture,” will examine how corporate structures and regulatory frameworks influence the management of environmental and production externalities in salmon farming, an increasingly important issue for the sector’s sustainable development.

A Leading Voice in Aquaculture Economics

Throughout his career, Asche has studied the economic, environmental and market dynamics shaping global fisheries and aquaculture. He currently serves as editor of Aquaculture Economics & Management and has previously led the International Association of Aquaculture Economics and Management (IAAEM) and the North American Association of Fisheries Economists.

His international work has also included contributions to the development of the FAO Fish Price Index, a tool for tracking trends in global seafood markets. He has been elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) and the International Institute of Fisheries Economics and Trade (IIFET).

The annual meeting is organized by NENRE EfD-Chile at Universidad de Concepción, in collaboration with the international Environment for Development (EfD) network. The event brings together researchers working on environmental and natural resource economics, sustainability and public policy.

Asche’s keynote will take place on November 6 at 9:15 a.m., offering a timely discussion on how economics and regulation can contribute to addressing the environmental challenges associated with salmon aquaculture.
